San Diego’s Grant Forrest fired 63-65 at Chambers Bay – site of the 2015 U.S. Open Championship – to take command of the individual leaderboard at the Redhawks Invitational on Monday.
Forrest, a junior from Scotland, had an eagle, 11 birdies and one bogey in the two rounds on the par-70, 7,047-yard course. He shot 5-under 29 on the back nine during the first round. His record 65 was bogey-free.
He has a two-round total of 12-under 128 and leads Arizona State sophomore Jon Rahm by seven shots.
Forrest’s teammate, Mathias Dahl, is in third at 4 under.
San Diego, ranked-60th by Golfweek, is tied for the lead on the team leaderboard with eighteenth-ranked UCLA, who is lead by junior Preston Valder at 4 under.
Washington, No. 15 in the Golfweek Rankings, finished Monday at 2 under – good enough for third place entering the final round and two back of the Toreros and Bruin. Arizona State is in forth with a two-round total of 1-over 561. Oregon State is in fifth at 3 over.
