GRANITEVILLE, S.C. –– It was a phone call he didn’t expect, but one he’s glad he answered.
Keenan Huskey of Greenville, S.C., got the call Sunday telling him he was invited to play in the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley Golf Club. He got the spot after George Cunningham withdrew with a wrist injury.
“I’m just fortunate to be here,” said Huskey, who is signed to play college golf at South Carolina in the fall.
The decision to accept the invitation was a no-brainer for Huskey, who had heard about the tournament but had never been to Sage Valley before. He is also friends with last year’s winner, Carson Young, who is also a South Carolina native.
“The only reason I had to think about it was because I had another tournament I was scheduled to play in,” said Huskey, who was supposed to play in the pre-qualifier for the PGA Tour’s Wells Fargo Championship Thursday at Carolina Golf Club in Charlotte, N.C. “But I withdrew from that and now I’m here.”
