NOW TO NATIONALS!!! After the SEC Tournament, our team qualified for the NCAA regionals and we all worked really hard. The lineup we ended up taking to the SEC Tournament was one that we had not taken to a tournament this season. However, it worked and we all earned our spot on the team.
The trip started out great because our school plane took us straight to Stillwater, Okla., on Monday. I had never been on the school plane, but it was really cool and I found out at the end of the trip that I sat in Nick Saban’s usual seat!
Once we got to Stillwater, we practiced on the range the first day and then we had a practice round the next day. The tournament started on Thursday and ended Saturday. We finished second as a team! The top eight teams go to Nationals and the top two individuals who are not on one of those teams goes as well. Our team is super excited!
Personally, this was a big turnaround for me individually. I have struggled this year in golf and finally I got my swing, mind, and spirit back how it was before. The course was super hard in Oklahoma, but I really liked it even during the practice round.
Because of (Alabama men’s assistant coach Mike) McGraw, we had a little advantage because he gave us his knowledge he had as a coach at Oklahoma State for so long. The advice he gave us definitely helped me a ton.
I played solid the first round shooting 68. The second round I started with a triple, but shot even the rest of the time. Therefore, going into the last day, I was 1 under for the tournament. The last day, I shot 1 under and it put me second place at the NCAA Central Regional. This tournament really boosted my confidence.
Our team is very excited for Nationals, and I know I am personally. We all know that we need to work on what we did poorly and keep what we have going for us. This week was important for the Alabama women’s golf team. I think by the end of the week, we will be ready to play our best at Nationals in Tulsa! Wish us luck!
