Lynn University was dominate all season and again last week at the NCAA Division II Women’s Championship en route to a second consecutive title.
Lynn shot 2-under 282 May 17 to finish at 28-over 1,164 at Rock Barn Golf & Spa. Lynn, of Boca Raton, Fla., won by 29 shots over fellow Florida school Barry University.
“I’m just so proud of them; the work that they put in and the way they’ve been able to believe in themselves and each other; to know who good we could be,” said Danny Randolph, Lynn’s head coach. “Obviously, we were pretty dominant this year so it’s just great to end it with a dominant performance.”
Lynn was undefeated this year against Division II competition and won 11 times this season.
The Fighting Knights were led by individual champion Louise Manalo, who shot 3-over 287 for the crown by one shot over teammate Jessica Bradley. Samantha Smolen tied for 10th, while Irene Calvo and Ellen Chambers tied for 23rd. Manalo is Lynn’s fifth national champion.
Florida schools have dominated the Division II championship winning every title since 2000. Rollins College (five titles), Nova Southeastern University (four) and Florida Southern College (four) join Lynn’s two titles.
