Sam Burns fired a second-straight 66, taking the lead through 36 holes at the Thunderbird International Junior on Saturday.
Burns, who sits at 12 under, is four strokes ahead of Andy Zhang and Zachary Bauchou at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Burns made eight birdies on the day, going bogey-free through his first 15 holes.
“I just want to stay in the moment, do what I’ve been doing and make sure I stay positive,” Burns said in a release. “A lot can go on out there that I can’t control. I just have to stay positive and give myself chances.”
Zhang, who entered Saturday’s round in first place at 7 under, shot a 1-under 71. He started out hot, making a birdie on the par-4 second hole and holing out for an eagle on the par-4 third hole. But Zhang followed that eagle with a bogey and failed to make another birdie until his final hole of the day.
Doug Ghim, Theo Humphrey and Nathan Jeansonne are tied for fourth at 5-under 139. Jorge Garcia, who won the tournament last is in 10th place at 3 under.
