In a tune-up for next week’s U.S. Women’s Open, Brooke Henderson shot a final-round bogey-free 9-under 62 at Niagara Falls Country Club in Lewiston, N.Y., to win the second annual Women’s Porter Cup.
Henderson, No. 3 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, entered the final round nine shots back of second-round leader and fellow Canadian Jennifer Ha.
Ha, a rising senior at Kent State, shot a final-round 74 to tie for second with Princess Superal of the Philippines at 5-under 208.
Henderson, a 16-year-old who is a member of Canada’s National Team, made five birdies and added two back-nine eagles to her card for a three-shot victory.
Just three week’s ago, Henderson became the first Canadian to win the Scott Robertson Memorial at Roanoke (Va.) Country Club. She followed that tournament-finish up with a T-45 finish at the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic in Waterloo, Ontario, on a sponsor exemption.
She now heads to Pinehurst (N.C.) No. 2 to compete in her second LPGA major this season. Henderson played in the Kraft Nabisco Championship in April and finished T-26.
As reports have shown, the Smith Falls, Ontario, native has selected Florida as her school of choice for 2016.
