Sam Burns fired a 7-under 65 Thursday to increase his lead at the AJGA’s Rolex Tournament of Champions.
Burns, an LSU commit from Shreveport, La., is 17 under through three rounds at Richland Country Club and leads William Register and Carl Yuan by five shots. He got off to a slow start with two bogeys in his first three holes, but those were his only two bogeys of the day. He added seven birdies and an eagle.
Nick Hardy is solo fourth at 11 under while Doug Ghim (T-5), Adam Wood (T-5) and Austin Connelly (T-9) are also in the top 10.
Behind a bogey-free 5-under 67, Andrea Lee, No. 1 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Junior Rankings, has taken the lead by six shots after Round 3 in Nashville, Tenn., in the girls division. Her round consisted of an eagle at the par-4 first and three birdies.
Lee is 9 under through 54 holes, while Mariel Galdiano, another class-of-2016 product, sits in second behind a 71 in the third round. Lee and Galdiano are the only two players under par.
Muni He of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., Alice Jo of China and Evelyn Arguelles of Mexico are tied for third at even-par 216.
