Perennial champion Arlis Pike of Kernersville, NC has plenty in common with fine wine – he gets better with age. Pike strung together rounds of 67-68 for a 135 total to win the 6th Carolina’s Super Senior Championship on Tuesday at High Meadows Golf & Country Club in Roaring Gap, N.C.
Pike, who tried the Champions Tour from 1998-2003, made it back-to-back victories as he defeated his closest rival, Steve Wright from Deep Gap, NC who posted rounds of 69-68 for a second-place 137 total.
“I didn’t have a three-putt all week,” said Pike. “That was the key to my win.
“I talked to the superintendent during my practice round about the course and how to play it. That really helped me out a lot.”
First round co-leader Alan Dirk of Sanford, NC carded a final-round 71 to finish alone in third place.
Pike, who is nationally ranked by Golfweek (click here for full rankings), had a recent top-25 finish in the National Senior Hall of Fame held in June at High Point Country Club.
Pike has been given a special exemption into the Golfweek Senior National Match Play Championship Aug 10-12 at the Dormie Club in West End, N.C.
