Corey Pereira fired a 3-under 67 on Friday to cruise to an eight-shot victory at the 48th Pacific Coast Amateur in Flagstaff, Ariz.
Pereira, a sophomore at Washington, did most of his damage in Rounds 2 and 3, firing back-to-back 62s to make Friday’s 18 holes at Pine Canyon simply a formality. It also gave him confidence going into the final round.
“I’ve carried a lead in junior events before but nothing of this caliber. I think I am well prepared to handle it. If I can keep doing what I am doing, I’m sure there will be no problems,” Pereira said in a tournament press release.
Matt Hansen and Lorens Chan finished T-2 at 11 under, while Andrew McCain and Mark Anguiano were joint fourth at 10 under.
