McIlroy is oddsmakers' prohibitive PGA favorite

Rory McIlroy will enter the 2014 PGA Championship as the prohibitive favorite at 5-1, according to bookmakers in Las Vegas.

McIlroy was 10-1 going into both the Masters Tournament and U.S. Open Championship, but 12-1 going into the Open Championship in Hoylake, England.

In those first three majors, McIlroy was either co-favorite or down in the pack.

At 5-1 Tuesday, he has the lowest odds going into a major since last year’s PGA Championship – when Tiger Woods was 4-1 before teeing it up at Oak Hill last year.

The two closest to McIlroy?

Adam Scott is 12-1 and Sergio Garcia is 15-1.

Phil Mickelson, Justin Rose, Rickie Fowler and Matt Kuchar are 20-1.

Tiger Woods, who withdrew last week from the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, is 40-1.

A side note, McIlroy was 40-1 going into Oak Hill last year as the defending champion.
