Corey Conners shot his third consecutive 68 on Wednesday at the Canadian Amateur to take a one-shot lead into the final round in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Conners, a recent Kent State graduate from Listowel, Ontario, is at 8-under 204 through 54 holes at Elmhurst Golf and Country Club. Sam Saunders of Albuquerque, N.M, and a rising senior at New Mexico, is second after a 1-over 71.
Conners held a three-shot lead heading into the final four holes, but he finished bogey-bogey-birdie-bogey, allowing Saunders to stay close.
Brian Bullington of Frankfort, Ill., and a rising senior at Iowa, is in solo third after a 1-under 69 Wednesday.
The biggest mover of the third round was Rico Hoey, a USC sophomore from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., who shot 5-under 65, the lowest score of the tournament.
The champion will earn an exemption into the PGA Tour’s 2015 RBC Canadian Open and next week’s U.S. Amateur, unless already exempt.
