World Amateur Golf Ranking: No. 14 (moved up 30 spots from last week)
Hometown: Mission Viejo, Calif.
School: Sophomore, Texas
2014 summer highlights: Winner, Western Amateur; T-2, Porter Cup; T-4, Southern Amateur; Won, Southern California Amateur Championship; Runner-Up, California Amateur Championship
Why he’s dangerous: Hossler is one of those players that when his game is on, it’s really on.
He has been on the road for the last three weeks where he finished no worse than T-4 in three events. Before heading to Tennessee for the Southern Amateur, he won the Southern California Amateur for the second consecutive year to give him a confidence boost before his travel escapades.
After coming close at the Southern and Porter Cup, Hossler broke through with his first big-time amateur career victory at the Western Amateur at The Beverly Country Club in Chicago.
The thing is, Hossler never gives up. He falters early, especially in the Western final when he went 3 down to Xander Schauffele, but somehow he finds a way to fight back. One thing Hossler is good at is making lengthy putts when needed to claw his way back into the match. He did that on three consecutive holes in Chicago.
Since his victory, Hossler got to spend a couple of days at home relaxing and getting his game together for another long championship week at the U.S. Amateur.
If he is fully recovered from the long road trip, expect Hossler’s confidence to still be on the up and make a run deep into match play at Atlanta Athletic Club.
