Baylor Bears

Preseason rank: 27

Final 2013-14 Golfweek/Sagarin ranking: 29

2013-14 in review: Baylor posted a solid season in head coach Greg Priest’s 11th and final year with the program. The team ended its campaign with a 10th-place finish at the Eugene regional, part of a 17-year streak of reaching the posteason. Golfweek All-American honorable mention Kyle Jones was the go-to guy for Priest, with seven top-10s and all but three of his 40 rounds being counted for the team last season.

Notable departures: Jerry Ruiz

Key returnees: Kyle Jones, Andreas Gjesteby, Filippo Zucchetti, Niclas Mansson

Newcomers of note: Frederik Andersen

Circled on the fall calendar: Tavistock Collegiate Invitational, Oct. 19-21, Lake Nona GC, Orlando, Fla.

Fall outlook: The biggest change to the Baylor Bears comes at the top, where Mike McGraw is taking over. McGraw, a three-time national champion (’14 Alabama assistant, ’06 Oklahoma State head coach and ’00 Oklahoma State assistant), is very familiar with the Big 12 After spending eight years as head coach at Oklahoma State (that could be the understatement of the year). He brings back the majority of Baylor’s top players, including Jones, who could be one of the nation’s best seniors this year.

Coach’s perspective: “I am excited about working with this new team. Coach Priest left me with a very talented group of guys. My expectations are to improve each week, players and coaches included.” – McGraw
