Mizuno’s Shock Wave Sole, introduced in the new JPX-850 fairway woods, carries over into JPX-850 hybrids as well.
It looks something like a wave and is intended to allow the clubhead to contract then expand upon impact. In other words, according to Mizuno, it works like an accordion. The purpose is to deliver more energy to the ball.
Like the fairway woods, the hybrids benefit from a lower center of gravity. Lofts in the hybrids are 16, 19, 22 and 25 degrees (Mizuno marks them 2, 3, 4 and 5, respectively).
Available Nov. 3, the hybrids cost $199.99 apiece.
