Prior to Wednesday, Clara Baena had never broken 71 in her collegiate career. Now, after a final-round 6-under 66, the Auburn sophomore not only has a new personal-best collegiate round, she also has her first college victory.
Baena shared medalist honors Wednesday at the “Mo”Morial with Florida State’s Kayla Jones at 7-under 209. The performance by Baena also helped the Tigers to the team title at the Texas A&M Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas.
Auburn finished at 4-under 860, 13 shots better than the Seminoles.
Texas A&M (881) and Houston (895) placed third and fourth, respectively, while Tulsa and Kentucky tied for fifth at 37-over 901.
Baena was joined with two other Auburn players in the top 10, Sophia Schubert (T-5) and Alex Harrell (T-9). Texas A&M freshman Maddie Szeryk was solo third.
