Rematch set for U.S. Collegiate Championship

College golf heavyweights Georgia Tech and Oklahoma State went toe-to-toe at the U.S. Collegiate Championship last year, with the Cowboys having the final say and a one-stroke victory.

This year, the Yellow Jackets will have the chance to exact revenge, as they host the Cowboys and 14 of the country’s top teams at The Golf Club of Georgia, Friday through Sunday.

Title defense

Both the Cowboys and Georgia Tech senior Ollie Schniederjans will be defending titles in the Peach State this weekend.

Oklahoma State will start three players from last year’s winning team: Jordan Niebrugge, Wyndham Clark and Zachary Olsen. The Cowboys finished at 15 under par, with all five players finishing inside the top 25.

Schniederjans carded three rounds under par, including a first-round 6-under 66, finishing with a four-stroke win at 10 under.

(Not-so) First-Timers

Veterans Kramer Hickock, a senior at Texas, and Niebrugge, a junior at Oklahoma State, will be making their first starts of the young season this weekend. Niebrugge, who is coming off of a right-wrist injury, was a 2013-14 Golfweek All-America honorable mention. He finished T-10 at the U.S. Collegiate Championship last year.

Hickok, who missed the fall season with a wrist injury last year, is a two-time All-Big 12 selection.

Red-hot Deacons

As Wake Forest heads into one of its toughest tournaments this fall, it does so with all of the momentum in the world.

The Demon Deacons have won two-straight tournaments for the first time since 2002 with a victory at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate and the Primland Collegiate.

Freshman Will Zalatoris led the storied program to its most recent win by claiming medalist honors for the first time in his young career. But the Demon Deacons have seen solid contributions across the board, including junior Davis Womble and sophomore Danny Guise.
