NBC Sports extends Miller's contract through 2017

Johnny Miller isn’t going anywhere – at least not for the foreseeable future.

The TV golf analyst and former PGA Tour player has signed an extension with NBC Sports through 2017, with the option to extend his contract for another year, according to the Associated Press. NBC Sports owns the Golf Channel, and uses its on-air talent on both outlets.

”I was thinking, ‘I’m 67. I’m getting up there,”’ Miller told the AP at the Frys.com Open. ”I didn’t know how my marbles were going to be at that time. So far, I haven’t lost too many. I’ll be the first guy to quit this if I start losing it.”

Miller, who started broadcasting in 1990, has earned a reputation for speaking freely on air. He has been a part of 20 U.S. Open telecasts. Last summer’s U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 could have been his last. The U.S. Golf Association and Fox agreed to a broadcast rights deal, which includes the U.S. Open, for more than $1 billion.

Golfweek senior writer Alex Miceli spoke with Miller following his emotional broadcast at the 2014 U.S. Open:
