Walker Cup practice sessions leaves some snubbed

A group of 16 elite amateurs will be making their way toward Frederica Golf Club on St. Simons Island, Ga., in December for the Walker Cup practice session.

An invitation to the exclusive event does not guarantee a player a spot on the U.S. team, which will compete against Great Britain & Ireland at the National Golf Links of America in Southampton, N.Y., Sept. 7-8, but it gives each player a great chance to make an impression.

The USGA’s International Team Selection Committee will choose the final 10-man team, but with every exclusive group there are always snubs.

Veterans Ollie Schniederjans and Brian Campbell initially come to mind. But with the Walker Cup set for September, the pair will likely be a part of the pro ranks before Team USA tees it up in New York.

College golf’s young stars – guys like Florida State’s Jack Maguire, Texas’ Scottie Scheffler and Winthrop’s Zach Seabolt – have the potential to be household names soon.

And proven players like UCLA’s Jonathan Garrick, North Florida’s M.J. Maguire and South Florida’s Chase Koepka may also feel like they deserve a seat at the table.

There will always be snubs, that’s how sports work. A vaunted pitcher will always be on the outside looking in at the MLB All-Star Game and there will always be the last four out in the NCAA Tournament.

But we still want to hear what you think. Who is the biggest snub for the Walker Cup practice sessions? Vote in the poll and leave a comment if you have a write-in vote.
