Editor’s note: College golf is dormant in January, so let Golfweek’s annual conference preview series serve as a bridge to the spring season. Here you’ll find fall highlights and spring predictions for each conference with an automatic qualifying spot in the postseason. The series (read all stories here) runs from Jan. 12 to Feb. 11.

Southwestern Athletic Conference
Conference championship: April 20-22, Links on the Bayou GC, Alexandria, Va.
Defending champion: Alabama State
Teams in conference (with Golfweek ranking): Alabama State (144), Texas Southern (247), Jackson State (253), Prairie View A&M (261), Mississippi Valley State (262), Alcorn State (260)
Conference favorite: Alabama State has won the conference AQ the past two years and has been a perennial favorite in the SWAC. After a fall season during which the Hornets won three times, why stray from them?
Could challenge: Texas Southern. The Tigers finished runner-up to Alabama State at the conference championship a year ago, and this team is in the best position to challenge again this year. The AQ would be big for the program.
Sleeper: Prairie View A&M. A runner-up at its own Panther Classic and another second-place finish at Arkansas Panther Bluff’s fall event should have helped the team’s confidence.
Midseason All-Conference Team: Dismary Marquez, Alabama State (sophomore); Chanelle Avaricio, Alabama State (freshman); Janelle Kraakman, Alabama State (junior); Mia Campbell, Alabama State (senior); Kassandra Rivera, Texas Southern (senior)
