Jordan Spieth odds-on Masters favorite through Round 1

AUGUSTA, Ga. – With the first round of the 2015 Masters in the books, the betting public likes Jordan Spieth to win his first green jacket, according to the oddsmakers in Las Vegas.

After an 8-under 64 on Thursday, Spieth moved from 10-1 to 9-4, supplanting previous favorite Rory McIlroy, according to the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook.

Before the Masters, Spieth had the most tickets bet on him, but McIlroy still had the most money. That changed with McIlroy’s 1-under 71 on Thursday.

McIlroy fell from 6-1 before the first round to 10-1, where he stands with 2013 U.S. Open champion Justin Rose, who shot a first-round 67.

Defending champion Bubba Watson slipped to 20-1 from 12-1 after a 1-under 71, and former Masters champion Phil Mickelson fell from 20-1 to 25-1 after shooting a 2-under 70.

Spieth, runner-up last week at the Shell Houston Open, was 8-1 on Monday to win his first major championship but fell to 10-1 as the early money went away from him.

In his Masters debut last year, Spieth finished second to Watson after shooting four rounds of par or better.

Tiger Woods started the week at 40-1 and found his stock soaring. He started the first round of the Masters in a surprising 15-1 position, but that support evaporated with a 1-over 73, dropping Woods’ odds to 60-1.
