Web.com Tour adds one stop, loses another in Texas

The Web.com Tour has shuffled its Texas schedule. The tour has added a new tournament for the first week of June, the Greater Dallas Open, but will lose the Midland, Texas stop next week.

The Dallas stop, to be played at The Lakes at Castle Hills in the suburb of Lewis, Texas, will be hosted by the Northern Texas PGA section and its Junior Golf Foundation. It will be the Web.com Tour’s 11th stop on the 2015 schedule.

“We’re excited about this new partnership with The Lakes at Castle Hills and the Northern Texas PGA Section and its potential for the future,” said Web.com Tour president Bill Calfee. “We think The Lakes at Castle Hills will provide an excellent venue in terms of both layout and facilities. Word has already spread quickly and our players are looking forward to playing there in June.

The Web.com Tour’s season-ending championship was played in the North Dallas area in 2008 and ’12 to a positive reception from fans and businesses. The Lakes at Castle Hills has also hosted several other competitions in recent years, including the Bright Realty Texas State Open from 2012-14, the 2012 and 2013 First Stage qualifiers for the PGA Tour’s Qualifying Tournament, and AT&T Byron Nelson Championship open qualifiers.

As for the discontinued WNB Golf Classic, host Midland Country Club will undergo a complete renovation of its golf course, which necessitated that work begin prior to the tournament.

“The Tour has had a long-standing and very positive relationship with Midland Country Club,” Calfee said. “We thank them for their support of the Tour over the last 13 years. There are no plans in place to return to Midland but we would welcome the opportunity in the future.”
