Lauren Waidner of Fleming Island, Fla., has given a verbal commitment to play college golf at Florida in 2017.
She is ranked No. 27 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Junior Rankings for the class of 2017, and is ranked No. 213 overall.
Waidner, a sophomore at Fleming Island High School, also made unofficial visits to North Carolina, Florida State, Kentucky and Auburn before deciding to become a Gator.
“I chose the University of Florida because I really liked the program and I bonded well with the coaches,” Waidner said. “I really felt at home when I visited there. I feel like Coach Emily (Glaser) and Coach Janice (Olivencia) have built a great program and I am excited to be part of their team.”
She placed second at the 2014 Florida Junior Tour Championship and was named the ’14 Florida Times Union Girls Golfer of the Year. She also tied for 15th at this year’s Kathy Whitworth Invitational.
