Ethan Farnam is an Illinois boy through and through, and he’ll remain in the state for his college golf years.

The Crystal Lake, Ill., resident has verbally committed to play golf for Northwestern. Farnam, a Class of 2017 recruit, chose the Wildcats after making unofficial visits to Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Purdue, Stanford, Vanderbilt and Virginia.

“Northwestern was simply the most logical fit for me. It is one of the best educational institutions in the world, and I feel at home with (director of golf and player development) Pat Goss and (head coach) David Inglis,” Farnam told Golfweek in an email. “With their help I look forward to reaching my full potential both in the classroom and on the course.”

The 17-year-old Prairie Ridge High School student is Golfweek‘s No. 332, and the fifth-ranked player in Illinois.

In 2015, Farnam tied for fifth at the AJGA Midwest Junior Players Championship, placed T-6 at the Golfweek Junior Tour Championship, won the Illinois State Junior Amateur Championship and finished second in the Illinois High School Association Class 3A State Golf Final. He also qualified for last year’s U.S. Amateur at Olympia Fields.
