AUSTIN, Texas – South African Louis Oosthuizen continued his run to the championship match with a 4-and-3 victory over Spain’s Rafa Cabrera-Bello in the semifinals of the WGC-Dell Match Play at Austin Country Club on Sunday morning.

Oosthuizen, 33, took the lead on the first hole when he drained an 18-footer for birdie and never looked back. Cabrera-Bello never made a birdie over the 15-hole match, but recorded three bogeys and a double bogey in his worst scoring performance of the week.

“Except for the putt on 1 and 8, I didn’t really make anything,” Oosthuizen said of his performance. “I’m still hitting some good putts, but I felt it was a day where Rafa wasn’t at his best today, so I needed to make sure I made pars and not give anything away like 8 and 9.”

It will be a rematch of sorts for Oosthuizen in the afternoon final as he will play Jason Day, who defeated defending champion Rory McIlroy, 1 up.

Day and Oosthuizen tussled in this event in 2014 when Day defeated the South African in the quarterfinals, 2 and 1, to move on to eventually win the championship over Frenchman Victor Dubuisson.

“I think in between shots, it’s important to switch off, think about other things,” Oosthuizen said of how he has approached the long week of competition. “I’m trying to walk a bit slower, trying to just take it easy. It’s a tough week. So I’m proud of the way I’m doing so far, feeling great. Body feels good, so I’m looking forward to this afternoon.”
