Wofford head coach Vic Lipscomb called it “the longest putt I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Terriers junior Andrew Novak’s birdie make from 100-plus feet Tuesday at the NCAA Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Regional was indeed impressive.

“That’s easily the longest putt I’ve ever made. I don’t know if I’ve even attempted any putts that long before,” Novak said. “It was every bit of 100 feet. There was water back behind the hole and I was actually worried about putting into the water. But I picked a line and hit it and it went in. It was luck, really, but it worked out.”

The long-range 3 at Ol’ Colony Golf Course’s par-4 18th allowed Novak to make the turn in 2-under 34. He finished with an even-par 72 and is 1 over through 36 holes.

Since Novak is competing as an individual, his only shot of advancing to the NCAA Championship in Eugene, Ore., is finishing as the highest player not on one of the five advancing teams. Currently, College of Charleston’s Will Rainey is the leading player not on a top-5 team at 3 under.
