The original Parsons Xtreme Golf 0311 irons were designed to look like a blade while supplying enough forgiveness and distance to make them playable for a broad range of players. Then came the 0311T irons, a smaller-headed version of the original, for accomplished players who prefer a more compact head but still wanted many of the benefits the 0311 delivers.
And for players looking for something even easier to hit that boosts ball speed away from the sweet spot, the company is set to release the 0311XF irons.
The XF stands for “extreme forgiveness.” PXG gave the 0311XF a longer blade length, a wider sole and a slightly larger overall profile. There also is more offset in the 0311XF than will be found in the original 0311 or the 0311T, which should help mid- and high-handicap players square the face more easily.
“The longer blade length and wider sole help increase the MOI and drive the (center of gravity) back to create greater forgiveness and more dynamic loft at impact,” PXG chief product officer Brad Schweigert said in a release. “As a result, the clubs are incredibly forgiving and deliver outstanding mis-hit performance.”
Like the other PXG irons, the 0311XF is forged and features an ultra-thin face designed to flex at impact for more distance. The space inside the head is filled with a soft thermoplastic elastomer that supports the face to increase durability and reduces vibrations to soften the feel.
High-density tungsten alloy weights were placed around the back of the head to lower the center of gravity and pull it farther from the face. This not only pulls the ideal hitting area into the middle of the face, it increases the moment of inertia for better stability and makes it easier to hit higher-launching shots.
The 0311XF irons come standard with lofts that are 1 degree stronger than the standard 0311 and 2 degrees stronger than the 0311T. The stronger lofts would produce a lower ball flight, but the effect is offset by the CG being lower and farther from the face. As a result, the ball flight of the 0311XF is nearly identical to the 0311, but the increased ball speed of the 0311XF results in it hitting shots several yards farther.
Cosmetically, the 0311XF looks very similar to the other 0311 iron models, so accomplished players may opt to add a 0311XF long iron to their set. In fact, Tour pro Charl Schwartzel did exactly that, dropping a 0311XF 4-iron into his bag shortly after joining PXG’s staff this summer.
PXG 0311XF irons are available starting today for $350 per club. PXG also can finish the clubs in Chrome Xtreme Dark, a black Diamond-like Carbon coating, for $150 extra per club.
