Consistency lifts Lydia Ko to Rolex ANNIKA Major Award

The scene at La Grange au Lac, a magical auditorium built entirely from pine and red cedar, gave the third annual Rolex ANNIKA Major Award reception a grand feel.

Crystal chandeliers and barren birch trees surrounded the stage of this unique venue, where four major winners from 2016 converged in formal attire to discuss their triumphs.

The race was too close to award the trophy that evening, but on Sunday at Evian, World No. 1 Lydia Ko joined Michelle Wie and Inbee Park as RAMA winners. Ko set a goal of being more consistent at the majors this season, and a victory at the ANA Inspiration, a runner-up showing at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and a tie for third at the U.S. Women’s Open proved her success.

“Just to have it named after Annika and how successful she’s been in majors and just in general, and what she’s done for the game,” Ko said, “I think there might not be some of us if it wasn’t for a player like her.”

Ko finished with 102 points, beating Ariya Jutanugarn by six points, and In Gee Chun by 12 points in the standings.
