Billy Feherty, father of David Feherty, dies at 91

Billy Feherty, father of golf analyst and commentator David Feherty, died Thursday at 91 years old.

David Feherty posted the news on his Twitter account, writing: “My father died this morning, after a long illness. No more pain, no more confusion, only peace for him now. I loved him very much.”

Billy Feherty, a former Belfast docks surveyor, had been battling Alzheimer’s, a progressive disease that destroys memory and other important mental functions. He is survived by his wife Violet and their three children.

“I think Alzheimer’s is worse than death, because at least dead people aren’t around anymore,” David Feherty wrote in a Father’s Day column for Golf Channel in June. “The vehicle my father used to move around this world freewheels on down the road, but the man behind the wheel is nowhere to be found except in the memories of those who loved him.”
