Tiger Woods signs golf ball endorsement deal with Bridgestone

Bridgestone announced today that Tiger Woods signed a multi-year endorsement deal to play the company’s golf balls.

Woods will appear in marketing campaigns and advertisements as a Bridgestone Golf ambassador. The terms of the agreement were not made available. Matt Kuchar, Brandt Snedeker, Bryson DeChambeau, Fred Couples, Stacy Lewis and Paula Creamer also are members of Bridgestone’s tour staff.

Corey Consuegra, Bridgestone’s senior director of marketing, said Monday evening that his company has an internal philosophy based on a Japanese phrase, Genbutsu-Genba.

“What that means is that we make fact-based decisions, decisions that are based on data,” he said. “So when we looked into the opportunity to be a partner with Tiger Woods, we studied closely and learned (in focus groups) that our brand perception increases by 50 percent when he is connected to our brand, and the purchase intent of our consumers goes up based on the nature of his credibility.”

Woods used a Bridgestone B330S ball at the 2016 Hero World Challenge this month. (Click here to see a complete list of Woods’s equipment at that event.) He finished 15th in the 18-player field at the no-cut event, but his second-round 65 and several excellent shots had the sports world abuzz that he could return to being competitive after multiple back surgeries and a 15-month leave from the PGA Tour.

“Finding the right golf ball is extremely important. It’s an essential part of my equipment, and the Bridgestone B330S ball is hands-down the best for my game,” Woods said in a press release. “Controlling launch and trajectory is critical, and with this ball I feel I have total control to hit all shots accurately.”
