Last fall, Hailee Cooper competed on the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team with Kaitlyn Papp, who signed with the Texas Longhorns in November.
Now, Cooper plans to join Papp in Austin as the Class of 2018 golfer has verbally committed to Texas.
Wanting to stay in her home state, the 17-year-old from Montgomery, Texas, picked the Longhorns over Texas A&M and Houston.
“I really wanted to stay close to home and for sure in the state of Texas,” Cooper said.
Last summer, Cooper advanced to the Round of 16 at both the U.S. Women’s Amateur and U.S. Girls’ Junior. She played on the U.S. Junior Solheim Cup team in 2015 in addition to her Junior Ryder Cup nod last year.
Cooper is ranked No. 6 overall and No. 1 in the Class of 2018 by Golfweek. She can’t wait to get to Austin.
“The coaches are fantastic and I know they will do their best to help me reach my goals,” Cooper said. “The talent on the golf team is amazing and I will love being in that atmosphere of competition everyday. Austin is a great city and I’m excited to be there. And the facilities are awesome. I’m super excited.”
