Talk about finishing strong.

Scott McCarron eagled his 54th hole to win the Allianz Championship Sunday by a single shot. The victory is the third for McCarron, 51, in his last 17 starts on PGA Tour Champions.

“All wins are exciting, but this one, to be able to finish it off the way I did, really something special,” said McCarron, who hit 7-iron from 179 yards to 6 feet to set up his winning eagle on the par-5 18th hole at The Old Course at Broken Sound in Boca Raton, Fla.

“As soon as I hit it, I couldn’t see it at all, just went right in the sun, so I had no idea, but it felt good. It was one of those that just felt right on the button and I was able to hear the crowd cheering and I knew it was at least inside 10 feet and I was pleasantly surprised to get up there and see it was only about 6 feet straight up the hill.”

The eagle was McCarron’s second of the day. He also made an 80-footer for eagle at the par-5 seventh. He finished with a closing 5-under 67 to end 54 holes at 17-under 199, a shot better than Kenny Perry and Carlos Franco.

Franco and Perry, who each closed with birdies, shot 65 and 66, respectively.
