One team shot under par in the final round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic Tuesday in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
That team was North Carolina State, which carded a closing 3-under 285 at Rio Mar Country Club’s River Course to capture the team title by a shot. The Wolfpack finished at 13-over 877, just ahead of co-runners-up Furman and Kent State. (The Paladins led after 36 holes at 7 over before shooting 7 over on Tuesday.)
North Carolina State’s Naomi Ko shared medalist honors at 1-under 215 with four other players: Baylor’s Amy Lee and Maria Vesga, Furman’s Haylee Harford and Maryland’s Panitta Yusabai. Harford was 5 under entering the final round before a closing 76.
Ko and teammates Sarah Bae and Leoni Bettel each carded 70 on Tuesday to help the Wolfpack rally for the victory.
North Carolina State entered the even ranked 29th in the country by Golfweek and beat a field that included No. 6 Georgia (fifth), No. 7 Furman (T-2), No. 10 Arkansas (eighth), No. 13 Purdue (11th), No. 15 Kent State (T-2) and No. 23 Baylor (sixth).
