Sarah Jane Smith rises into lead at Women's Australian Open

An Australian still leads at the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open, but it’s a different name atop the leaderboard.

Sarah Jane Smith fired a second-round 6-under 67 at Royal Adelaide Golf Club to move to 9 under and a one-shot 36-hole lead over four players. Caroline Hedwall, Pornanong Phatlum, Lizette Salas and Marissa Steen are all tied for second at 8 under.

First-round leader Katherine Kirk fell back to a tie for sixth at 7 under thanks to a 74.

Smith has never won on the LPGA, but she does own six top 10s. She most recently finished T-2 in November at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational.

Ariya Jutanugarn is 2 under and T-39. Lydia Ko and Brooke Henderson made the cut on the number at even par.
