Forbes Travel Guide released its 2017 list of Five Star hotels, and it includes two additions familiar to golf travelers: the Fairmont Grand del Mar in San Diego and the St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort in Puerto Rico.
The Fairmont Grand Del Mar is home to The Grand Golf Club, a Tom Fazio design ranked No. 15 on Golfweek’s list of California public-access courses. The Fairmont’s ascension this year to Five Star status places it among an elite group of 11 properties whose hotel, spa and restaurant all have achieved Forbes’ highest ranking. That group includes The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colo., The Cloister in Sea Island, Ga., and Wynn Las Vegas.
The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort includes Bahia Beach Resort & Golf Club, a Robert Trent Jones Jr. design that is No. 36 on the list of Golfweek’s Best Courses of the Caribbean and Mexico.
All told, 22 hotels were added to the Forbes Five Star list, bringing the global total to 175 hotels.
