Oregon grabs 8-shot lead early at Bandon Dunes Championship

Oregon’s off to a hot start in the Northwest, as the Ducks have an early eight-shot lead at the Bandon Dunes Championship.

On a Sunday where seven teams broke par, the No. 14 Ducks were the only team that truly went low. The team’s four counting scores were all sub-par, as Oregon fired out to 13 under through 18 holes in the three-day event at the Old Macdonald layout at the Bandon Dunes (Ore.) complex.

Tied for second at 5 under sit No. 21 Colorado and No. 9 Texas Tech.

The Red Raiders boast the individual leader in Hannes Ronneblad, who fired a 7-under 65 to open. But the Ducks boast three players in the top six, including No. 2 Wyndham Clark (second, 6 under), Ryan Gronlund (T-6, 3 under) and Edwin Yi (T-6, 3 under).

Oregon is going for its second straight win and third overall of the 2016-17. The defending national champions won twice, including the postseason, all of 2015-16, so a victory this week would already surpass the win total in a national title year.
