Patrick Reed reflects on infamous top 5 comment: 'It's how I felt'

It was a dandy of a two-part interview with Phil Mickelson. Lefty was full of great stories and insight in his recent chat with David Feherty.

After that hearty Season 7 premiere of “Feherty,” the broadcaster has another candid figure lined up for his one-one interview show. Patrick Reed is the subject of the show’s next episode, which will premiere on Golf Channel at 9 p.m. ET on Monday, March 20.

Golfweek has received an exclusive clip of Feherty’s chat with Reed ahead of Monday’s episode.

In this snippet, Reed recounts one of his most infamous statements. After capturing the 2014 WGC-Cadillac Championship for his third PGA Tour win, Reed claimed he was one of the top five players in the world.

That comment elicited immediate scrutiny from the golfing public for its hubris. Here’s what Reed told Feherty when he looked back on that statement.

Clearly, Reed doesn’t regret what he said.

This part of the video sticks out in particular:

“You have to have that confidence in yourself. If you ask every player out there, every single one of them believes they’re the best player in the world. If not, then they probably shouldn’t be doing what you’re doing because if you don’t believe in yourself, you’re not going to get the best out of yourself.”

It’ll be interesting to see what else Captain America has to say on Monday.
