Conditions were ripe for scoring Saturday – and have been all week – at the Bank of Hope Founders Cup, but Anna Nordqvist took it really deep.
The Swede fired a tournament course record 11-under 61 at Wildfire Golf Club in Phoenix, Ariz., during the third round of the LPGA event to take a two-shot lead heading into the final day.
She has several key lurking names to overcome, though. Ariya Jutanugarn fired a 66 to sit 19 under, two back of Nordqvist. Stacy Lewis is also tied for second at 19 under after the same score. Jutanugarn and Lewis have both 64-67-66 over the first 54 holes.
Lydia Ko had the second-best round of the day, firing a 9-under 63 to jump to 16 under and into a tie for seventh.
Ko actually birdied her last six holes of the round to get in that position.
Nordqvist, a six-time winner on the LPGA, had started her 2017 with a T32-T7 slate.
Michelle Wie, who started the round in a tie for third at 12 under, stayed at that number but dropped to T-24 and nine back.
