IMG, Callaway in Danny Lee’s future
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Reigning U.S. Amateur champion Danny Lee, who is scheduled to make his professional debut this week at the PGA Tour’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans (Golfweek, March 28), has signed a deal to be represented by IMG.
The management company already has secured agreements for Lee, 18, to endorse Callaway Golf and Elord clothing and is close to a deal with MasterCard, according to a source close to the situation. However, Callaway officials said as of April 13 an endorsement contract had not been signed with Lee. Terms of Lee’s deals were not disclosed.
In addition to New Orleans, Lee has secured sponsor exemptions to play the Quail Hollow Championship, the HP Byron Nelson Classic and the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. He also is exempt into The Memorial and AT&T National by virtue of his U.S. Amateur victory.
Lee, a South Korea native who was raised in New Zealand, also is expected to play in Asia later in the year at the Barclays Singapore Open, HSBC Champions in Shanghai and UBS Hong Kong Open.
Lee won the Johnnie Walker Classic in Thailand in February as an amateur, earning him a two-year exemption on the PGA European Tour and a spot in this year’s WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. Lee said at the Masters, where he shot 74-81 and missed the cut, that he would like to play both tours.
