Purdue women breeze to Big 10 blowout
Four Boilermakers finished in the top 10 as No. 11 Purdue cruised to its second consecutive Big Ten Women’s Championship title Sunday.
Purdue carded a final-round 12-over 300 to finish 37 shots ahead of Michigan State. It was the fourth-largest margin of victory in conference championship history.
The Boilermakers were led by senior Maria Hernandez and sophomore Maude-Aimee Leblanc, who shared medalist honors. It was the second year in a row Hernandez, No. 7 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, earned at least a share of the individual title. Leblanc missed a 6-foot putt on the 18th hole to fall into a tie for Hernandez.
For the third time in her career, Hernandez was named Big 10 Player of the Year. She has five victories this season.
