Close encounters of the Pressel kind

Morgan Pressel poses for a portrait in a Pink Pony Ralph Lauren polo.

This may not strike your interest. But I have to tell you about my Monday morning, which was extremely amusing and a fun way for any golfer to start his or her week.

What are the odds that Ashley Davis – golfer, Golfweek blogger and LPGA devotee – would meet up with golf star Morgan Pressel? And in Grosse Pointe, Mich., of all places!

It all happened because my engagement ring didn’t fit and I was taking it to be resized. Entering the Ahee jeweler store on Mack Avenue, the first thing I saw was an athletic-looking blonde woman with a killer Ralph Lauren outfit. I have to confess – I was envious (apologies for not taking a photo to show you why).

When I did finally peel my eyes away from her fabulous outfit, I was looking at Morgan Pressel!

Now, meeting pro golfers is my job – but this time I got giddy. I don’t think that’s ever happened before. Maybe it was the circumstance, just sheer coincidence, but I was a like a school girl.

Fortunately, the giddiness passed, my heart rate slowed down and I introduced myself and started a conversation. Morgan was there with her grandfather, whom she called Papa.

As we wandered through the store, my inner fashionista noticed that Morgan was doing a little styling herself. She bought Papa some much-deserved new bling – a handsome Tag Heuer Grand Carrera. It’s the perfect watch for a perfect grandfather. How can it not be a must have for this season for us too?

Fashion is definitely the theme of my week. But it switches from clothing and watches to cars, as I’m heading to Monterey, Calif. That’s the site for this week’s 59th Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance, and I am going to be right in the middle of the action.

Of course I will be checking out the HOT cars, but don’t think for one second that I won’t miss the chance to test out golf’s four wonders of the world – Cypress, Pebble, Poppy and Spyglass.

Because it’s my job, right?
