Just win baby!

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Another forgettable finish for Sergio Garcia on Sunday. There’s so much talk about his failure to win a major – 0-for-42 as a professional heading into 2010 – but I’d like to see Sergio adopt the infamous words of Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis and “Just win baby!”

Some perspective: Garcia has only two wins on the PGA Tour since 2005. And two wins during that same time span on the European Tour (most recently the 2009 HSBC Championship, which he won in Nov. 2008 – that’s the wacky world of the Euro Tour for you).

That’s not enough victories to merit being “Best Player Never to Win a Major” status. While that’s not a tag anyone wants to be associated with for too long, I’d argue Kenny Perry (based on his 14 Tour wins) is more deserving.

For comparison sake, here’s the top-5 cumulative wins on the PGA Tour since 2005:

  • Tiger Woods (30)
  • Phil Mickelson (13)
  • Vijay Singh (10)
  • Kenny Perry (7)
  • Geoff Ogilvy (6)
