Ringler in heaven at Conference Challenge

The view from the 15th hole at Blue Top Ridge in Riverside, Iowa, host of Golfweek's Conference Challege.

RIVERSIDE, IOWA - Is this Heaven? Nope, it’s the Golfweek Conference Challenge. (In Iowa.)

Wow!

That’s about the only way I can describe the atmosphere surrounding Blue Top Ridge – college golf’s “Field of Dreams” (which isn’t too far away from the real one). The par-72 Rees Jones Design that stretches over 7,500 yards is playing host to the inaugural Golfweek Conference Challenge that gets started Sunday with 18 holes per day through Tuesday. The property is vintage Iowa – a combination of rolling hills and flat land with prairie grass framing each hole.

The event is unique - 15 teams are here from 15 different conferences - and is something I really hope will turn into one of the premier events in college golf and kick-start each season.

It doesn’t even really feel like the summer is over and the football season isn’t event underway, but the college golf season is just two days away and I am fired up.

Gentleman, identify your golf balls ... it’s time to play golf!
