Back to the books for Holland

TULSA, Okla. – Charlie Holland admits going to classes at the University of Texas is not one of his favorite things to do.

So, when asked about some of the advantages of still being in the competition after Friday’s quarterfinal round at U.S. Amateur and missing the first week of classes, Holland said with a big smile, “That’s honestly one of the main things. I did not want to go back to school.

“I’m being dead serious. I’m just not a big class guy,” said the Longhorn senior.

Monday, though, he’ll be back into the books. Holland, a quarterfinalist at last year’s U.S. Amateur, lost in the semifinals at Southern Hills Country Club to Clemson senior Ben Martin, 5 and 4.

“My ball striking just wasn’t there today and neither was my putting,” Holland said. “It wasn’t my day and it wasn’t much fun. But Ben played great he deserved it. It’s frustrating, but I just flat out got beat.”
