Jones one of few to finish Round 4 at Q-School
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Matt Jones will be one of the lucky ones Sunday. He was one of just five players who finished his fourth round of Q-School Saturday. He’ll be able to sleep in while other players are finishing up at Bear Lakes.
Of the five to post 72-hole scores, Jones is the only one in contention for a PGA Tour card. He is in a tie for ninth at 11 under par. He shot 66-67 in his past two rounds to move up 30 spots on the leaderboard.
The fourth round will resume at 7:45 a.m. Sunday. Fifth-round tee times will be between 11 a.m. and 1:10 p.m., which means the round will have to be completed Monday before the start of the final round.
“I’ve been up at 5 a.m. every day since Sunday,” Jones said. “I’ve been off first three of the four days. It’ll be nice to get a good night’s rest, relax and ... recharge the batteries.”
The fourth round wasn’t completed Saturday because of a delay from 11:15 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Jones and Hunter Haas were on the 18th tee when the horn blew at 4:58 p.m. to suspend play for the day. They finished the final hole while players, caddies and gallery members walked to the clubhouse around them.
“It was straight downwind,” Jones said. “I wanted to get it done.” He’ll be able to sleep much easier after making a 5-foot par putt to finish his day.
