THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – An elderly man collapsed Thursday at the Chevron World Challenge and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, the Los Angeles Daily News reported, citing the California Highway Patrol.

The man, who was not identified pending notification of family, was listed as a 77-year-old from Nipomo. The Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the death, the paper reported.

The man collapsed at about 12:05 p.m. CST in a tent near the 10th hole at Sherwood Country Club, CHP Sgt. Mike Curtin said.

“He was in full arrest and stopped breathing,” Curtin said. “Off-duty firefighters from Northern California administered CPR, and 911 was activated.”

The man was transported to Los Robles Hospital, where he died, Curtin said. Curtin said that an automated external defibrillator was available on-site.
