Blumenherst wins NCAA Top VIII award
Amanda Blumenherst won the final stage of LPGA Tour Qualifying School Dec. 7.
Amanda Blumenherst has become the first Duke athlete in school history to win the NCAA Top VIII Award. The award recognizes student athletes who excelled at their sport as well as in the classroom and in the community.
Blumenherst, who hails from Scottsdale, Ariz., graduated from Duke in May and was a four-time All American. She also was the 2008 U.S. Women’s Amateur champion, and most recently won the final stage of LPGA Tour Qualifying School earlier this month.
Blumenherst joins seven other student athletes in winning the award, and they include Tim Tebow (Florida - Football), Courtney Kupets (Georgia - Gymnastics), Venessa Lee (Pittsburg State - Cross Country/Indoor & Outdoor Track), Jeff Lerg (Michigan State - Ice Hockey), Kent Raymond (Wheaton (llinois) - Basketball), Brittany Rogers (Alabama - Softball) and Sarah Stevens (Arizona State - Indoor & Outdoor Track).
Individuals chosen as Top VIII honorees are selected by the NCAA Honors Committee.
