Whitsett withdraws from U.S. Junior

Sunday, July 19, 2009

Cory Whitsett has withdrawn from this year’s U.S. Junior with a minor stress fracture in his back, the USGA announced on its Web site.

Whitsett, the 2007 U.S. Junior champion, injured his back at the Sunnehanna Amateur in June. He told the USGA that he will be out of action for at least two months.

Whitsett has verbally committed to Alabama for the fall of 2010.

His spot in the U.S. Junior field was taken by alternate Tyler Carney-Debord.
