Duke has a new assistant women’s coach.
Emily Bastel, a pro on the Duramed Futures Tour, will take over for fomer Blue Devils assistant Jan Dowling, who took the head coaching position at Florida earlier this summer.
It will be Bastel’s second stint as an assistant coach. She previously worked at her alma mater Michigan State for the 2002-03 season.
“For a long time, I’ve admired coach (Dan) Brooks and the program that he’s created at Duke and sustained for so many years,” Bastel said. “This is a tremendous opportunity.”
Bastel played on the LPGA in 2005-06 and 2008, and notched two top-10 finishes. She was also named the 2007 Duramed Futures Tour Player of the Year after winning the money title.
