Janet Carl was named director of golf at Cincinnati, and Doug Martin its head men’s coach, the university announced Wednesday.

Carl, who has led the Bearcats since 2004 after spending one season as an assistant, is a Class A LPGA member and vice president of the Big East Golf Coaches Association.

From 1999 to ’2001, Carl coached Notre Dame Academy in Park Hills, Ky., and was named the Cincinnati Enquirer Coach of the Year three times. Carl, who graduated from Alabama in 1982, was named the 2006 LPGA National Coach of the Year and earned the LPGA Founder’s Award for 2008, based on community service.

Martin was elevated to men’s head coach after serving three years as an assistant.

As a college golfer at Oklahoma, Martin won five individual titles and was a three-time All-American. He finished second to Phil Mickelson at the 1989 NCAA Championship.

After college, Martin played on the PGA Tour for eight years.
