Best Bet: Tiger Woods

When it starts to get late in the game, you signal for your closer. As we’ve learned so many times, this guy doesn’t just show up at events for giggles. He’s there for the hardware.

Ace Up My Sleeve: Brandt Snedeker

He’s healthy again, and Brandt Snedeker is starting to play like he can. Three top 5s in his last four starts, and the good play will continue at the Buick.

Last Week’s Best Bet: Anthony Kim (T-3)

Last Week’s Ace: Bob Tway (WD)

Standing: 1st

Jim McCabe

Best Bet: Nick Watney

Ultimate hunch. Hasn’t been on top of his game with three missed-cuts in last seven starts, but he can make a bunch of birdies and that will go a long way at this event. (Besides, we’ll save Tiger Woods for upcoming stretch.)

Ace Up My Sleeve: John Daly

Mixed emotions here. I’m not a card-carrying member of the John Daly Fan Club, but if he’s going to put up a good effort in the U.S., it will come in front of rowdy, beer-loving fans . . . the kind who make JD feel at home at Warwick Hills.

Last Week’s Best Bet: Luke Donald (T-24)

Last Week’s Ace: Tim Petrovic (DNS)

Standing: 2nd

Sean Martin

Best Bet: Scott Verplank

Verplank has been the model of consistency this year, making 14 of his past 15 cuts and finishing in the top 10 in his past three starts. He ended the Canadian Open by holing out a 40-yard bunker shot for eagle, giving him good vibes as heads to a place he loves – Warwick Hills. Verplank isn’t the longest of hitters, so he’s thrived on the medium-length layout, finishing T-17, T-5, T-4 in the past three years.

Ace Up My Sleeve: Michael Letzig

Letzig, in his second year on the PGA Tour, seems to be getting comfortable with Tour life. He’s made 19 of 20 cuts this year, including a T-24 in Milwaukee and T-8 at the Canadian Open. He also finished T-12 at last year’s Buick Open.

Last Week’s Best Bet: Mike Weir (T-24)

Last Week’s Ace: Bryce Molder (T-16)

Standing: 3rd

Eric Soderstrom

Best Bet: Jim Furyk

Guy is due for win, and playing too well not to get one soon. A duel with Tiger might be cool to see, also.

Ace Up My Sleeve: Kevin Na

Despite a tough weekend in Canada, having a pretty decent year with four top-5s and seven top-10s.

Last Week’s Best Bet: Jeff Overton (MC)

Last Week’s Ace: Tag Ridings (WD)

Standing: 4th

Lance Ringler

Best Bet: Tiger Woods

Only two top 20 players in the Buick Open field from the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index and they just happened to be the No. 1 and 2 players. We will go with Tiger Woods this week.

Ace Up My Sleeve: Nathan Green

Green is ranked No. 217, but he is coming off a playoff victory in Canada and that should be good enough to get him to the weekend against a field that is not real strong.

Last Week’s Best Bet: Luke Donald (T-24)

Last Week’s Ace: Bryce Molder (T-16)

Standing: 6th

Jeff Rude

Best Bet: Jim Furyk

He’s overdue to win.

Ace Up My Sleeve: Rory Sabbatini

Has shown signs of life throughout the year.

Last Week’s Best Bet: Retief Goosen (2)

Last Week’s Ace: Bryce Molder (T-16)

Standing: 5th

Alex Miceli

Best Bet: Tiger Woods

Ace Up My Sleeve: Brandt Snedeker

Last Week’s Best Bet: Steve Marino (WD)

Last Week’s Ace: Pat Perez (T-24)

Standing: 7th
